What criteria do your awards have?

The Festival promotes two award categories each year, announcing three winners: 1 for the Gerry Brunet Memorial Award and 1 for each of our Audience Choice Awards categories (Feature and Short).

Gerry Brunet Memorial Award

Our annual juried award for local (British Columbia-based) short filmmakers. All local short films selected for screening at the Festival are eligible for the competition. The jury is composed of the previous year's winner, a member of the VQFF Volunteer Programming Committee, and another local filmmaker. The recipient is traditionally awarded during our Closing Gala.

Audience Choice Awards

We currently select one winner each of the Best Short and Best Feature categories. Winners are decided by our audience, who can vote up to the day after the Festival ends. Winners are based on proportional voting.

Recipients are notified and announced post-Festival.
