Tickets, Passes & Memberships

How do I buy tickets and passes? How much are they?

You can buy Memberships or Festival Passes to join the Festival on our website! Tickets for specific films and events can be purchased from the individual film pages. All of our sales are run by the Elevent ticket system.

Tickets

Single tickets are offered on a range from $5 to $21, allowing you to choose what you are able to afford or would like to pay. All tickets provide you with the same level of access but are designed for specific groups:

  • FWB ($21) - The FWB, or Friend with Benefits ticket, is designed for folks who feel they can afford to pay a little more for their film screening. This is a great way to provide a little more support for the work our charitable organization does.
  • Standard ($14) - Standard tickets are our base price for any film viewing, online or in-person.
  • Access ($10) - Access tickets are designed for Students, Seniors, the Underemployed, or anyone else who needs a reduced ticket price to access online or in-person film screenings.
  • Access+ ($5) - Our lowest-cost ticket for folks who need reduced financial barriers.

Companions accompanying people who need assistance to access our film screenings or events are always free. If you have any concerns about accessing any of our films or events, either for financial reasons or because of other barriers you may experience, please contact our Box Office team and we'll work with you to make arrangements.

Sometimes we work with other partners or venues to present films. In some of those instances the partner controls the box office and sets the ticket prices. While we try to work with all of our partners to ensure our co-presentations are financially accessible, we can't always ensure that the prices will match those listed above. If you have any questions about pricing, please contact our Box Office using the chat feature or by email.

Festival Passes

Festival Passes provide a richer experience, allowing you to see any film during the Festival, as long as there is availability. Passholders and their guests are allowed to access in-person screening venues ahead of other ticket holders to help you get the best seats. All Festival Passes also include 1 Adult Membership in the Vancouver Out On Screen Film & Video Society, helping to streamline your arrival at an in-person venue and providing you with the opportunity to participate in our Annual General Meeting as a voting member.

Festival Passes are to be picked up at will call, which occurs at each of our in-person screenings. Check out the online programme to see which films will have screenings at specific venues to plan accordingly.

Passes are only available for patrons aged 18 years or older. You may be asked to show proof of age when attending an in-person film screening or special event.

Festival Passes are offered at two price points, $145 and $175, allowing you to choose what you are able to afford or would like to pay. All passes provide you with the same level of access but are designed for specific groups:

  • Access Pass ($145) - The Access Pass is designed for Students, Seniors, the Underemployed, or anyone else who needs a reduced price to access online or in-person film screenings. The Access Pass "pays" for itself after approximately 10 film screenings (online or in-person).
  • Festival Pass ($175) - The Festival Pass is our base pass price. The Festival Pass "pays" for itself after approximately 12 film screenings (online or in-person).

A Festival Pass is included in Reel Patron memberships beginning at the Producer level. At the Director level, Reel Patrons receive 2 Passes - a great option for couples that want to support our work and see great queer film!

  • NEW in 2022 - Digital Pass ($100) - The Digital Pass is a great option for film-lovers who aren't ready to return to in-person film screenings. The Digital Pass provides you full access to our online film screenings only - you cannot access in-person film screenings with this pass.

I have an extra Festival Pass I want to gift to someone else, how does that work?

If you would like to gift your second Festival Pass to a friend or family member, please see our handy guide for transferring tickets.

Do I need a membership to watch films?

The Vancouver Out On Screen Film and Video Society is responsible for operating in compliance with the Motion Picture Act and Consumer Protection BC.

To attend one of our film screenings (which may not have been classified by Consumer Protection BC), you must be a member of The Vancouver Out On Screen Film and Video Society. Membership is by annual subscription and is limited to persons who are 18 years of age or over. Being an active Adult Member also allows you to vote at our Annual General Meeting, helping to direct the future of Out On Screen.

Only members are permitted to be present at the place where a non-classified film is being exhibited.

Our mandate is the encouragement and appreciation of motion pictures as a medium of art, information or education.

Can I buy a ticket after the film has started?

Yes. You’ll be able to purchase a ticket within 30-minutes of our official screening time.

If an online film is being offered VOD, you can purchase a ticket at any time before the film goes offline (usually at midnight of the last day of the Festival). Regardless of whether the film is scheduled or available on demand, you have 24 hours to watch the full film after you hit play, unless the film expires.

All tickets expire at midnight on the last day of the Festival.

Scenario 1: You arrive a bit late to an in-person film screening

Usually, our Box Office Attendants are available for the first 30 minutes of a film screening to help anyone who may arrive late. We'll be happy to sell you a ticket and work with our Front of House team to slip you into the theatre.

Scenario 2: A film is being screened online at a set time

Our Box Office and Tech Support teams are usually available by chat or email for about an hour after an online film's listed start time. We can usually sell you a ticket within that time, though you will need to watch the film right away to be sure it doesn't expire before you can finish it.

Scenario 3: A film is streamed online

Regular streamed films can be started at any time and you will have 24 hours to complete you viewing, up to the expiry time. Streamed films usually expire - or become unavailable - at 11:59PM on the last day of their run. If you have questions about the schedule, please email our Box Office team.

Do you offer refunds or exchanges for passes or tickets?

We know that sometimes, try as we might, we just can’t make it to all of the films and events we plan to. If something comes up and you need to adjust your tickets at least 2-hours prior to a screening or event, contact us for help, and we’ll see what we can do.

We’ll aim to respond quickly, but please allow up to three (3) days for us to get back to you. Any delay on our side will not impact the eligibility of your refund.
